ABOUT

Derrick, Barb, and Danny are Way Out Salvage.
A proud “mom and pop” operation. A team effort spanning over four decades.

Derrick first came to Arkansas with friends in 1976 by way of Rochester, NY. Separately, Barb found her way here from northern Virginia a few years later. Both were eager to make a home on their own remote properties during a “back to the land” movement of the decade. Both were looking to jettison the crowded cities and oppressive building codes back east to create a peaceful living and working experience on their own property, and on their own terms.
Eventually these two dreamers met, married, and welcomed a son.

Around 1985, the pair began purchasing Volkswagens to repair those they already owned.
Derrick took to some part-time customer work soon after, and the business was born;
Derrick as shop boy, and Barb as office girl. By 1992, Danny joined the crew part-time, and went full-time in 1998.

Way Out Salvage is more than a name. It’s a way of life. Just like a vintage Volkswagen, our business is off the beaten path and full of fun, quirky surprises that make it one-of-a-kind. We know Beetles to Buses, Ghias to Things, Squarebacks to Fastbacks, and just about anything in between. We even have some modern stuff, too. Whether you need top-notch advice, service that’s second to none, or an elusive part for your project, you’ll find it and more nestled in the beautiful Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.
